Mums Chamber Music

Welcome to Manchester University Music Society Chamber Music :)

Databases

We have 3 MUMS chamber databases: players who are interested in chamber music (so people can connect and form groups), chamber ensembles that already exist (so you can hire a group for your event, or write music for a group!), and composers (so you can commission music for your group). The composer list here is part of a larger database of MUMS composers, which can be found on the MUMS website.

Music

Here are links to different databases of music for any chamber group!

If you're not sure what type of group you may be interested in, here is a database of some common (and some uncommon) chamber music groups! Each instrument has a link to a separate spreadsheet that includes the ensembles it can be a part of (auxiliary instruments such as cor anglais and bass clarinet are categorized under their 'main' instrument).
However, remember that chamber music is not bound by specific instrumentation! Parts can be substituted (e.g. flute playing an oboe part), and especially with today's contemporary music, there can be music for any type of group even if it isn't on this list.

Chamber Performance Opportunities

Lunchtime Concerts: Lunchtime concerts are 40-minute concerts, run by the Lunchtime Concert Managers to give MUMS members - both music students and non-music students - a performance space. They will begin at 13:10 on a Friday in the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall in the Martin Harris Centre.Signup for a performance slot will be released on @MUMS_lunchtime_concerts Instagram around a month before the first possible concert for that period. For example, to play in a lunchtime concert in October/November, the signup form would be released at the start of September. You must indicate which concert dates you would be available to play in for that month; concerts are not programmed first-come-first-serve, but by considering cohesive programming and timing restraints. This means you may be programmed into one of any of the dates you are available for.Shortly after signup, the Lunchtime Concert Managers will be in touch notifying you of when and if you have been programmed in a concert in the time period. Performers must monitor their emails to keep an eye on information such as a pre-concert rehearsal slot, changes in running order or other important information.

MUMS Concerts: A few of the MUMS concerts will have the opportunity for groups to perform before or in the concert (or in the foyer during the interval). The first concert where this is available will be the Festive Concert, on the evening of December 12th. One group is invited to perform festive repertoire before the main concert begins at 6:30PM. To sign up, please use the Google form below. The next opportunity will be the Chamber Orchestra concert in 2nd semester, on February 22nd. The selected group will play on the balcony in the foyer of the Martin Harris Centre during the interval of this concert.A concert in the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall consisting of only chamber ensembles is planned for semester 2 but not confirmed yet.
